    Back to School

Ahhh… back to school, shopping for Jonah. We met Nina, (my mom) over at Target, to finish up back to school shopping for the boys. Mostly, all of Jonah’s school supplies have been purchased, but he’s been eyeing this Camo backpack at Target. Collin did okay. He was patiently waiting for Jonah to pick some new clothes, but was not interested in shopping for himself. Sometimes the stores are too busy for Collin. I didn’t push it too much. I’ll take him when it’s just the two of us. We ordered Collin’s backpack online from Disney. His backpack that he carried for 2years and I really mean 2 years since…

    Beach Day

We are smack right in the middle of summer vacation and parents with a child or children on the spectrum summer vacation can be daunting. The change in routine and schedules can cause anxiety for the child. Collin goes to school all year round, with a few weeks off during the summer. During those weeks and weekends, we like to plan day trips. Two weekends ago we made it to the beach with some great friends. Collin wasn’t always a big fan of the beach. We live in Florida, it’s kind of hard to avoid going, but over the years he enjoyed going. This child loves being in the water…

    Troop 100

Scouts has been so beneficial for Collin. We had Jonah join first, and he really enjoyed it. Going into Jonah’s second year at Scouts, we met our new Scoutmaster, Ms. Sara. I remember introducing Collin to her at a meeting and she asked why Collin wasn’t a Scout? I never really thought it would be an option…I didn’t know if he would even take part. I didn’t want other parents to think Collin would receive some favoritism because something would be too hard for him to complete or for Collin to stay focused at pack meetings. Once again, Collin has proven me wrong!! He looks forward to going to Scouts…

You’ve Got a Friend in Me

Woody made it on one of our walks last night. It was beyond cuteness to see him imitating Andy at the beginning of Toy Story 1 with Woody on his shoulders saying “giddy-up, giddy-up”. Along with Collin bringing Woody on our walk, we had a couple of other firsts yesterday. Collin ate little at Mission BBQ for lunch. When we got home, we were just hanging out watching something on his iPad, and out of the blue he said: “I am hungry.” He’s NEVER EVER said that before. I typically ask him if he is ready to eat and he will answer yes or he’ll go to the kitchen looking…

Another Bike Ride In The Books

To say my legs were tired after this bike ride would be an understatement! Over 17 miles with Jonah on the Cross Seminole Trail. We rode from Oviedo into Winter Park and then back!! He did amazing and we always have so much fun on our bike rides. Next Monday, I think we will hit the other part of the trail into Winter Springs.

    Haircuts

Haircuts are one of our biggest struggles. For as long as I can remember, Collin had a difficult time. No matter how much we prepared him and how much he seemed on board, it never ended well.We went to places that were recommended, only for it to end with a child who was completely stressed out by the end of a haircut. There were countless times I would have to hold him down or bear hug him, while he screamed and cried, to have a hairdresser attempt to cut his hair, all the while parents with their children sat with their jaws to the ground, probably not knowing what was happening.…

    Haircut Day!

To say I dread getting Collin’s haircut is an understatement. This is one of his sensory processing disorders. Getting his haircut brings him to tears and is usually in a full meltdown. It’s been about 6 months since his last haircut. So with clippers in hand, I took my chances lol. After 2 hours, I got to a point where I couldn’t go anymore. I was afraid I would end up shaving his head. Luckily my hairdresser @hair_by_alexys said to bring him in the am and she would “fix” it. Thank you @hair_by_alexys for all your help and your patience with Collin.

    Lucky

I’m so lucky to be his Mom.I know most people don’t get him, and that’s ok. I feel bad for those people who don’t get to know him. He has the sweetest soul. Every day, he tries so hard and I really can’t ask for anything else.
